| Species: | Swan (genus Cygnus, family Anatidae) |

gunshot wound |

| Treatment: |
This female swan came in with a gun shot wound. Too weak to leave the water, the wound became very infected. When we saw her she was too weak to pick her head up and eat. Dr. Rogers came out the day she was admitted and put her on antibiotics, with little hope for her recovery. Within a
few days she was eating, but still very wobbly and could not stand or even keep herself upright. Within a week she was standing but very wobbly. Now she is almost able to walk perfectly, swims in the tub every day, eats good and is certainly on her way to a 100% recovery.
The swan will be going to Phillips Zoo in Aurora. The are building a new enclosure and as soon as that is done they will come get it. The swan is pinioned and so cannot fly. It had been observed beginning last April/May by the rescuer kayaking. At that time the swan was small, about the size of a goose and spent all it’s time with the geese. |
